Sometimes You Have To Crawl Before You Can Run

The other day I was reading ‘No Matter What!: 9 Steps to Living the Life You Love’ by Lisa Nichols… you know the one, the motivational speaker from The Secret. And there was something she said in her book that just BLEW my mind. It was this:

There have been times since discovering my Take-Action Muscle when I could only crawl. Even so, I made sure that I stayed in motion… There may be situations in your life when, from the outside, it could appear you’re not moving, but inside you know you’re in motion, gearing up for the leg of your journey that lies just ahead.

As we are working on our business and towards our ultimate goals, often times to our dismay, it seems as if we are making little to no progress. What you had set out to get accomplished in a month all of sudden turns into three! What you thought would take you three months to create ended taking you a year! Often times we are left feeling disillusioned, frustrated and doubtful because of this.

Why can’t we get this “thing” done? Why is it taking so long? Why do we seem to put all the insignificant (or less significant) tasks before the ones most important to us… the ones we know that once completed would make the biggest difference?

The human mind works in mysterious ways and everyday people are learning more and more about how it works and how we can take that new-found understanding of it and use it to our advantage.

We do know a few things. There is one very important factor that determines what you choose (or not choose) to do in your business (and life) and is the driving force in your actions and thus in your results…. and that is your subconscious beliefs.

The majority of our actions and decisions are driven by our subconscious mind. It’s how we are able to get up each morning, brush our teeth, make our cup of coffee, drive our car, and go about our other daily rituals with little to no thought.

It also is what protects us in the face of potential danger. It knows to look out for pot holes so we don’t walk right into them. It knows to be on the look out for crazy drivers on the highway. It knows to warn us to put our hands up and protect our face in the event that we fall down. All these actions are run on automatic.

Our subconscious can also decide for us what is important to do in our business NOW and what isn’t…or what to put off because of fear. Isn’t it ironic that the one thing most important to you, is the thing your subconscious mind detects as something to fear, thus putting distractions in place to keep you from taking action (or quick action) on that very thing??

You’re probably thinking, “I don’t fear creating that product” or “I don’t feel fear with that book I’ve been trying to write.” I’m here to tell you that it’s a good chance that consciously you may believe you don’t, but subconsciously you do and that is what’s driving your actions.

So what do you do? How do you beat this bad boy? How do you trump that subconscious so you can take decisive actions in your business so you can move forward?

Here’s a not so simple and not always fun answer – with a lot of work.

The first step is acknowledging that something is keeping you from completing what you set out to do or at the very least causing you to take a snails pace with it. You don’t always need to know what it is. I know there are many practices out there that swear that getting “to the source or root” of the issue will free you, so you can put your past behind you and move forward once and for all!

I’m not discounting any of these practices. I, myself, have explored into many of these practices; and if you have the time and resources to venture deeper into these types of practices, then I say absolutely go for it! The more you study that amazing, powerful brain of yours and how it works the better.

However, as I said, just taking your head out of the sand and acknowledging that you are being stopped is sufficient enough to allow you to do an about-face and point you in the right direction.

The next step would be to feed your mind with as many inspirational and instructional information you can get your hands out…. I kid you not. Watch mind movies, fun and inspiration videos, read up on already successful people (both living and not). Feed that brain and retrain it to know that anything is possible.

There’s nothing like reading a rags to riches story to put you in the right frame of mind…

But my last bit of advice and it’s probably something you’ve heard over and over before. But I want you to truly listen, loud and clear, and let it sink in … feel the fear and take action anyway!!!!

I tell you what. Once you’ve accomplished that “thing” that you’ve been crawling to get done, you’ll wonder why it took you so long in the first place. You’ll realize it wasn’t such a big deal after all. Then you’ll just be on to the next big fear.

What have you been crawling on that you are ready to start running with?
